Pap test and
colposcopy.

The screening exams, on site during the visit.

The Pap test and colposcopy are performed on site, during the visit, when indicated. They are brief outpatient exams, and the conversation with the doctor comes before and after: you know what is done, and what happens next.

The bend

Why they are done

Two exams that look at the same thing, at two depths.

The Pap test searches, the colposcopy goes deeper.

The Pap test collects a few cells from the cervix to catch, in time, changes that give no symptoms. The colposcopy observes the same tract under magnification, and usually serves to look further into a Pap test that needs clarifying. Neither is an operation.

How they are done

How they are done, in practice.

A few minutes, inside a normal visit.

Everything happens on site, in the same room as the visit.

First you talk

The doctor tells you what will be done and why. If something is unclear, you ask before, not after.

The sampling is brief

The Pap test lasts a few moments: a gentle collection of cells from the cervix, with no anaesthetic.

The colposcopy is an observation

The instrument magnifies from the outside, it does not go in: the exam feels like a slightly longer visit, not like a procedure.

The result is explained

The report does not stay a sheet to interpret on your own: what emerges is read and explained with your doctor.

Always the same doctor

The person performing the exam is the specialist who follows you. There is no rotation of different specialists.

Frequent questions

The most frequent questions.

For any other doubt, the front desk is there for you.

Does the Pap test hurt?

Usually not: it can give brief discomfort, similar to the visit itself. If something makes you uneasy, you say so and we stop.

Do I need to prepare?

There are a few points about the right timing, starting from the date of your cycle. They are cleared up when you book, with no need to memorise them.

I have been prescribed a colposcopy: is it serious?

No, not on its own. It is a closer look: it serves to see better what the Pap test has only flagged, and often serves precisely to rule out.

How do I book?

On WhatsApp at the front desk number, or by phone during opening hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:00-14:00 and 15:00-19:00.
