The cone beam on site rebuilds the bone in three dimensions: height, width, and where the structures you must not touch run. It is the question a flat film cannot close.

An implant needs healthy tissue around it. If the gums are inflamed, they are treated first and then the implant is planned.
How the other teeth close
The load that will reach the implant depends on chewing. The whole arch is assessed, not just the gap to fill.

How long does the whole thing take?
It depends on the bone and on how many teeth are missing, so there is no number that fits everyone. The schedule is written at the visit, before anything starts.
Is it right for everyone?
No, which is why the assessment comes first. If an implant is not the right route we say so, and we look at what else can be done.
Am I without a tooth in the meantime?
That is one of the things decided at the visit, together with the schedule. It is settled beforehand, not on the fly.
