Prosthetics · Dentistry

Fixed and removable prostheses,
on teeth or on implants.

Crowns, bridges and full prostheses.

When a tooth is too compromised or is gone, the prosthesis rebuilds or replaces it: fixed, like a crown or a bridge, or removable. Which road is the right one depends on what is in the mouth, and it is decided at the visit.

What it is

A prosthesis is designed on the whole mouth.

It does not just replace a tooth: it restores chewing.

Crown, bridge and removable prosthesis are different answers to the same question: how to give the teeth their job back. The right answer does not come from a catalogue, it comes from what is around: teeth, roots, gums and bone.

The assessment

The assessment, before the design.

Three checks that decide the road.

The prosthesis comes at the end of a reasoning, not at the beginning. First you look at what it can rest on.

  1. The pillars

    What can carry the prosthesis

A prosthesis always rests on something: natural teeth, roots or implants. Their condition decides what is possible and what is not.

  2. Roots and bone

    What is underneath

Under a crown or a bridge what counts is the roots and the bone holding them. They are looked at first, with an X-ray when needed.

  3. The bite

    How the whole closes

The prosthesis enters a mouth that already has its habits. How the teeth close together is assessed, not just the gap to fill.

The method

How the choice is made, and with whom.

The options are explained before deciding.

Fixed or removable, chosen together

The options are explained first, with the pros and cons of each. The choice is made at the visit, with you.

What is there is preserved

Where the root is healthy, a crown makes use of it. Keeping what is there, when possible, comes before replacing it.

Maintenance is part of the path

A prosthesis too needs check-ups and cleaning, and how depends on the type. It is explained at delivery, not left to chance.

Frequent questions

The most frequent questions.

The rest is answered at the visit.

Is a prosthesis better, or an implant?

They are different roads to the same problem, and there is no answer that fits everyone: it depends on teeth, gums and bone. At the visit the options are weighed with the images in front of you.

How long does a prosthesis last?

It depends on the type of prosthesis and on how it is maintained. At the visit we tell you what to expect from the proposed solution, maintenance included.

Will it show that it is a prosthesis?

The prosthesis is designed to blend in with the teeth that remain, in shape and in colour. That is part of the design, not a final touch-up.

I have a prosthesis that does not sit well. Can I show it to you?

Yes. We look at what is not working and tell you whether it can be corrected or whether it is better remade. That too is an assessment visit.
